During this historic cold blast, many Minnesotans will crank up the heat and hunker down inside. So how can you make the most of your home heating?

KSTP did a home walk-through with an auditor from Xcel Energy.

Some of the areas heat is escaping may surprise you -- for instance, anywhere there's recessed lighting. Not only does it cause a draft, but the rising heat can cause ice dams as well.

"Most people think that's not really a trouble area because you can't feel it," Chris Rustad with Xcel Energy said.
